Announcing Dr. Pawd

What is Dr. Pawd?

If you are a podcast connoisseur, and listen to podcasts on the go, while cooking, while working or while running, then I'm sure you would appreciate the problem we are trying to solve with Dr. Pawd. Dr. Pawd is your podcast companion, it can find answer to your questions by extracting information from podcasts.

Background

As someone who enjoys the Huberman Lab Podcast for the wealth of science backed information shared around ways to optimize our health and wellness. Every new episode throws some new tips, tricks and protocols that you can apply in your daily life to improve some aspect of your health routine, whether it is your fitness, sleep, diet, hormones, or mental health. But being a laid back consumer of the podcasts I never take notes and over time it becomes hard to remember the exact specifics of all the protocols. In some cases I would try to remember in which episode did he mention this tip, and on top of that trying to figure out around what timestamp did he talk about this.

I always dreamed of a tool where I could ask questions I had such as "what supplements did Dr Huberman recommend for improving sleep?" and it could give me the answer as well as point to the exact timestamp of the episode where I mentioned this so I could revisit it. However, no such tool existed because of the limitations of the technology of the time.

Dr. Pawd to the Rescue

Advancements in natural language processing, including the development of ChatGPT and related APIs have made this possible at an affordable cost. I'm excited to introduce Dr. Pawd to you, your podcast companion. Dr. Pawd listens to all your favorite podcasts and you can ask him any question you might have about any of the podcast episodes, it will provide the answers you are looking for and also point you to the episodes which you might have been looking for in the first place for those questions. Let's see what all things Dr. Pawd can do.

Finding Answers From Podcasts

The most basic thing Dr. Pawd can do is to find answers for your questions from its podcast sources. Let's see an example:

I recently switched to coffee from tea and started to consume a lot of coffee. I remembered that Dr Huberman has talked about how much coffee can one drink in a single sitting within the safety levels. So I went and asked Dr. Pawd: How much caffeine can one drink in a day safely? Here are the results:

You can see that not only it gives me a summarized answer based on the relevant episodes but it also points me to the exact timestamps in those episodes where Dr. Huberman talked about caffeine dosage.

Episode Summary

The next cool thing Dr. Pawd does is to automatically provide you a summary of each podcast episode. For example, if from the previous search result page, I click on the episode link on Caffeine, I see the following screen which includes the summary of that episode.

It is also possible to ask Dr. Pawd to provide summary of an episode directly via query. For example, I could ask it this question: "summarize the episode of Huberman Lab with Dr. Rhonda Pattrick" And it directly takes me to the summary of that episode.

Discovering New Episodes

Last but not the least, Dr. Pawd helps you discover new episodes that you may not have watched previously but might find interesting. If you land on the summary page of a particular episode, that page will show you a list of other related interesting episodes for you at the bottom. For example, the episode page of Huberman Lab with Dr. Matthew Walker on sleep recommends the following list of related episodes.

Currently Supported Podcasts

Right now, Dr. Pawd supports two main stream podcasts, which are The Huberman Lab Podcast by Dr. Andrew Huberman and The Drive Podcast by Dr. Peter Attia. I am a regular consumer of both of these. The amount of information shared by these podcasts is immense and starting with them made in the beginning made the most sense. However, over time our plan is to add more and more podcasts and make them available to everyone
